"Hi Harvey. I am gutted as we have just had our appeal upheld. Like you they refer to the previous moderators comments and adding comments suggesting students 'could have' included annotations about prevailing winds, littoral zones (!)…"
"A big thank you to Danny for the administration and drive to run the NING..it has been brilliant to share resources and thoughts and a big thank you to everyone who has done that. It has been great as a forum of opinion and experiences…"
"We've had SDMEs on ageing pop & location of new towns so far with this spec. Not to say it couldn't be these again, and as Danny suggests, probably with a SW bias. I think it would be a missed opportunity to not do something about…"
If last years anything to go by it will based in DEVON
So new housing development on a green belt, sustainable housing - :-) I'm being playful.
I've set up a discussion here to help those of us in the last…"
Sad to see the ning on it's way. We are jumping ship to EdExcel after this cohort. It has been a life saver since starting in teaching in 2011 and becoming head of dept 3 yrs later. Thanks for all the discussions and sharing. One last brainstorm request from me before we go....thoughts on the direction for SDME June 2017 - Population and Settlement theme?- migration control- population management- land use change- settlement location???I am not looking forward to this one.... :sSee More
"This has been a godsend to me especially now being sole person in the department and moved schools as well. It's been useful to get to know people and share ideas. the SDME is critical for next year given the topic so the more people that join…"
"Ditto! Thanks to everyone who has contributed over the years. I was the only Geographer at school when the Ning started and it was great to have a support network. Now we have 3 geographers, 70 Y11s and the best results in the school which is…"
I really think OCR have let down a number of students with regard to the marking of the SDME, is it through a lack of markers or incompetence never quite sure. We definitely have irregularities in marking of the SDME this year.See More
"I left teaching this summer after 17 years, 5 years with ocr b. Being the only specialist geographer at my school meant the Ning was invaluable to me and would like to thank all involved in contributing and setting up the facility. One last…"
"I agree and the NING responses have died somewhat recently. Happy to take people's emails to stay in contact. Danny has been a godsend for CA and I hope I can help people with exam prep as an examiner. I will miss this Ning."
"We're moving to Edexcel for the new spec. Too many things about new OCR we don't like. I guess the main thing we'll miss if the current spec Ning goes will be sharing resources for the final SDME & Themes exams. I predict next…"
"I have had a D move to a B! If you have tracked them well enough, tested them well enough and know that they couldn't have got that grade send it for remark. I am less likely to send 1 mark off students who have always been borderline than dead…"
"Thanks Tony. It's what I suspected, but a bit annoying when you give CA a certain mark out of 60, it's not adjusted by the moderator, but shows as one mark lower UMS. Especially when students are one mark off the grade boundary!"
